Sport Performance Enhancement
This course applies the scientific principles underpinning sport to the context of performance enhancement. Traditionally sport science has been based on three foundational scientific disciplines - physiology, biomechanics and psychology. You will either study two of these disciplines in breadth or a single discipline in depth along with a negotiated independent study. You will also study research methods and data analysis and will work as part of an interdisciplinary team providing support services for an athlete client, which will expose you to a range of practical and ethical issues associated with support work.
Good Honours degree in sport science; sport and exercise science; coaching science; or related area; equivalent qualifications will be considered in related areas; experience in sport science; sport and exercise science; coaching science; or related area.
Trimester 1: Scientific methods; 2 core modules. Trimester 2: Scientific support in sport; contemporary issues in sport and exercise science; independent study module (40 credits). Trimester 3: Research project (60 credits). Core modules: Applied biomechanics; performance enhancement; psychological interventions for sport performance enhancement; physiological factors affecting sporting performance; independent study.
