Advanced Practice in Intellectual Disabilities and Applied Education

As a practitioner in the public domain of health and social care services, you are expected to be innovative, provide leadership and make an advanced contribution in your professional role. This course will enable you to do just that in your specialised area of practice. You will gain an in-depth understanding of the theoretical knowledge and practical skills you need to practice at an advanced level, as well as the ability to critically appraise relevant health and social policy. You will acquire the knowledge and skills you to address ethical and professional issue and enhance the quality of health or social care by fostering a broader, more critical approach to intellectual disability practice and education. The course will prepare you for a deeper involvement in the development and communication of the theories behind your practice.

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for this course are a qualified health or social care practitioner, who has a degree or equivalent experience. We look for candidates to have a background in health or social care in order to be eligible for the programme.

Course modules

Year 1: Exploring professional roles in practice; professional study and practices; effective learning and teaching in higher education contexts. Year 2: Research methods; 2 core modules; Year 3: Dissertation. Study modules mentioned above are indicative only. Some changes may occur between now and the time that you study.
