Advanced Computer Networking

The course provides students with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to pursue careers as network professionals; concerned with the design, implementation and administration of high performance computer network infrastructures; includes an examination of the methods, techniques, tools and technologies used to develop such infrastructures; includes all the material required for the Cisco Network Professional (CCNP) qualification.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree; or advanced qualification in computer science; or cognate discipline from a British university; or recognised overseas institution; or industrial experience in computer networking and an Honours degree; where English is not 1st language: IELTS 6.0 (no element less than 5.5); or TOEFL 550 (213 for computer based test) are required.

Course modules

Modules include: Advanced routing; switching; network troubleshooting and maintenance; research and project methods a; professional practice a; fundamentals of simulation of computer networks; network QoS and VoIP; network perimeter security 1; research and project methods b; professional practice b; project.

Assessment methods

Each module will be assessed individually by a combination of coursework and formal examination.

Sponsorship information

Part funding of PgD awards may be available from SAAS to eligible full-time candidates; the period developing the Master's dissertation is not funded; scholarships of £1,000 are available to all international students; there are no special application forms for scholarships and decisions are made on the basis of the information provided with the application forms.
