Building Services Engineering

The programme is primarily designed to provide a study route for engineering graduates to enable them to progress towards full Chartered (CEng) status. The building services engineering profession is a vibrant and important component of both the construction and engineering sectors of industry.

Entry requirements

The programme is designed to accept Honours degree graduates (2.2 and above) or equivalent in any discipline associated with building services engineering, mechanical engineering or energy-related studies; applicants with appropriate professional experience may be considered on individual merit. International students whose first language is not English shall be required to demonstrate evidence of satisfactory competence by completing an IELTS test with a score of at least 6.0 (with no element of the score less than 5.5) or by holding another recognised qualification.

Course modules

Core modules include: Building simulation; building management systems; heating and air conditioning system design; building and energy performance simulation; electrical power systems; building management systems; project. Elective modules may include: Resources and sustainability; sustainable design and construction; management of safety, health and environmental project risk; construction management; climate change and carbon management; construction contracts and dispute; renewable energy technologies; water quality and waste water treatment; construction financial management; project management.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include written examination, course work, and oral presentation; normally there is more than 1 assessment component in each module.

Sponsorship information

some students are eligible for tuition fee support. The fees and financial support that are relevant to you depend on where you lived before coming to university. Scholarships of £1,000 are available to all international students; there are no special application forms for scholarships and decisions are made on the basis of the information provided
