Allied Health Professionals (Supplementary Prescriber to Independent Prescriber)

The aim of this module is to enhance care and build on previous knowledge and skills by preparing Allied Health Professionals (Physiotherapists and Chiropodists/Podiatrists) who are currently annotated on the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) register as Supplementary Prescribers to convert to Independent Prescribers. The module incorporates both theoretical principles and a period of supervised practice to ensure independent prescribing competence, generally completed over a 12-week period.

Entry requirements

The candidates must be Allied Health Professionals (Physiotherapists and Chiropodist/Podiatrists) who are currently annotated on the HCPC register as Supplementary Prescribers.

Assessment methods

Assessment will include a learning log, an examination on consultation in the clinical area assessed by a Designated Medical Practitioner and a written assignment.
