Wrexham Glyndwr University
This course covers the theory of the mechanics of composites, design considerations and the environmental aspects of composites; the courses have been constructed in close collaboration with Airbus UK to serve as an industry-led introduction to composites and their application in the aircraft and other industries; the courses provide the background understanding of the issues behind the use of composites in aerostructures and other transport applications, in manufacturing of composite detail and assemblies, the mechanics of composites and how they differ from isotropic materials; this course for people who already have a 1st degree or conversion Master's in a related subject, who would like to explore and develop their own potential by undertaking research at postgraduate level.
An engineering Honours degree, or other Honours degree, with at least a 2.2 classification in a relevant subject area or academic qualifications at a lower level than Honours degree but supported by a maturity of experience at a professional level in a relevant specialist area or equivalent overseas qualifications deemed satisfactory by the programme team.
Modules include: Manufacture and properties of composites; assembly, joining and repair of composites; design with composites (theory); design with composites (practice); analysis, testing and quality assurance of composites; environmental aspects of composites. (MRes) Optional modules; research project.
Assessment includes a dissertation; a project
