Computing

This course has been designed for teachers of the new GCSE or A-level computing/computer science syllabuses. It focuses on three key areas of development: programming (software development), database systems and emerging computing technologies. This practical course will develop your skills in a number of areas and the key skills and techniques of computational thinking and problem-solving are emphasised throughout. You will gain a firm foundation in the principles of object-oriented programming, design and testing, understand the role of database systems in information management as well as the theoretical and practical issues that influence the design and implementation of database management, systems and languages. You will also explore the emerging and future technologies in computing such as investigating novel application areas and environments where computing can be potentially beneficial

Entry requirements

The course has been designed for computer science teachers.

Course modules

Modules include: Introduction to programming (software development); computational thinking and database systems; future and emerging technology.

Assessment methods

There will be a range of assessment methods. Practical work will form part of the assessment. Students will be assessed through a combination of written material and practical exercises on computing hardware and software, together with both individual and group work. The emphasis will always be on the educational aspects and applications of the technologies covered.
