School-based work: During the first term, students observe, participate in and take responsibility for lessons in local schools. College-based work: in College, students focus on the ideas and principles underlying teaching. They look at how children learn and develop, and the role of language in learning. They consider factors to be taken into account when developing lessons that are interesting, balanced and relevant to pupils� needs.
An undergraduate or postgraduate degree at least 50 per cent of content should be in the proposed teaching subject; GCSE grade C or above in English language and mathematics; an enhanced disclosure certificate from the Government�s Criminal Records Bureau (CRB); an occupational health questionnaire.
The assessment of college-based work is in 3 units in the form of continuous assessment. School-based work is assessed over the course of the 3 terms. Trainees also need to pass computer-based tests in literacy, numeracy, and information and communication technology.
