Cultural Policy, Relations and Diplomacy

This programme provides engagement with the study of cultural policy and practice in Europe in the broader context of international cultural relations. The course explores variedly labelled areas such as arts policy and management, globalisation, cultural relations, public diplomacy, cultural and arts diplomacy, external communications and place branding and examines topics such as mobility of cultural practitioners, project management, cultural identity, inter-cultural dialogue, mutuality, propaganda, soft power, hegemony, influence, perceptions. The programme is designed to enable students from to understand, apply and critically evaluate theoretical perspectives, approaches and methods in the study of the changing and diverse relationships between culture, arts, politics and international relations and communication. The course also addresses policy, professional and practitioner concerns and issues in the international cultural relations field through the use of case studies and practical examples from the field involving a wide range of organisations (governments, international organisations, corporations, NGOs and individuals).

Entry requirements

An undergraduate degree of at least 2nd Class standard in a relevant subject.
