Global Media and Transnational Communications
This programme introduces the key developments in the media and communications industries associated with the logic of globalisation; it explores the complex nature of the globalisation process; and draws on sociology; anthropology; political economy; international relations and geography; as well as media/cultural studies; the programme is particularly appropriate for those who have some experience of studying or working in the media.
1st degree of at least 2nd Class standard in a relevant discipline; graduates in an unrelated field may be considered subject to qualifying examination; non-native English speakers need a minimum score of 7.0 in IELTS; students are encouraged to attend a pre-sessional course.
Compulsory courses: introduce students to contemporary developments in media industries and cultures; familiarise them with research approaches to global media; and encourage them to think critically and actively about the manner in which theoretical arguments are constructed; 3 option courses and complete a dissertation.
