Gender, Media and Culture

This programme explores gender in relation to critical and cultural theories, both within sociology and across disciplinary boundaries; it offers rigorous research training, with the emphasis on understanding the practice of research in relation to gender, and encourages students to explore the challenges raised in recent debates on gender; issues discussed include: the body, masculinity; post colonialism; human rights; sexual violence; subjectivity and biomedicine.

Entry requirements

1st degree of at least 2nd Class standard in a relevant discipline; degree in an unrelated field also considered subject to qualifying examination.

Course modules

Options include: politics and difference; the relationship between globalisation, risk and control; psychoanalysis; sociology of culture; and biomedicine and the biological citizen.
