Veterinary Nurse Practitioner

The course looks at 3 interesting aspects of the veterinary nurse as a practitioner. The companion animal life care module looks primarily at areas where the veterinary nurse can influence the health of companion animals by giving appropriate advice and guidance to owners. These include nutrition, preventative control of parasites of dogs, cats and rabbits and the supply of licensed animal medicines. The companion animal behaviour module explores the behavioural states of domestic animals that commonly contribute to behavioural problems and evaluates the range of techniques that can be used to treat them; including behavioural modification, chemotherapeutic intervention, nutritional therapy and legal and professional considerations. Finally, the client support module looks primarily at the areas of client support that a veterinary nurse can assist with - i.e. long term illness, euthanasia, bereavement, nurse clinics etc. and effective methods of communication that will improve client compliance.
