This course offers students a background in computer science. Study covers areas such as computer networks and distributed systems; compilers; computer architecture; concurrency; databases; graphics; introduction to artificial intelligence; introduction to bioinformatics; ludic computing; machine learning and neural computation; robotics; software engineering.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree in a science or engineering discipline; pre-course study and practice is necessary for those with no such prior experience; all applicants whose 1st language is not English require: GCSE, IGCSE, GCE O-level or equivalent at grade C; or Cambridge certificate of proficiency in English (CPE) at grade C; or IELTS score of 7.0 with a score of 6.5 or better in the written and speaking section; or TOEFL paper minimum score of 610 (test of written English (TWE) of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL computer minimum score of 250 (TWE of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL internet minimum score of 100 overall, including a minimum of 24 in the written section and a minimum of 22 in the speaking section.

Course modules

Modules include: Computer systems; integrated programming laboratory; individual project (full-time activity during final term); team programming project; logic and artificial intelligence programming; object-oriented design and programming; programming in c and c++. Optional modules: advanced databases; computational finance; computer networks and distributed systems; compilers; computer architecture; concurrency; databases; graphics; introduction to artificial intelligence; introduction to bioinformatics; ludic computing; machine learning and neural computation; robotics; software engineering.
