Computing (Architecture)

This course offers a background in computer architecture: areas of study include graphics and visualisation; intelligent data and algorithms; and cognitive robotics.

Entry requirements

1st Class Honours degree in a science or engineering discipline including computing; all applicants whose 1st language is not English require: GCSE, IGCSE, GCE O-level or equivalent at grade C; or Cambridge certificate of proficiency in English (CPE) at grade C; or IELTS score of 7.0 with a score of 6.5 or better in the written and speaking section; or TOEFL paper minimum score of 610 (test of written English (TWE) of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL computer minimum score of 250 (TWE of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL internet minimum score of 100 overall, including a minimum of 24 in the written section and a minimum of 22 in the speaking section.

Course modules

Students select 9 modules, 7 of which must be selected from a group of 11 courses appropriate for architecture; the course modules are as follows: Advanced computer architecture; advanced databases; advanced graphics and visualisation; advanced issues in object-oriented programming; advanced topics in software engineering; automated reasoning; cognitive robotics; complexity; complex systems; computational finance; computer networks and distributed systems; computer vision; computing for optimal decisions; custom computing; databases; distributed algorithms; distributed systems; graphics; intelligent data and probabilistic inference; introduction to bioinformatics; knowledge representation; ludic computing; machine learning; machine learning and neural computation; modal and temporal logic; models of concurrent computation; multi-agent systems; network security; operations research; parallel algorithms; performance analysis; program analysis; quantum computing; robotics; simulation and modelling; software engineering; software engineering � systems verification; type systems for programming languages.
