Advanced Aeronautical Engineering

Air travel is vital for the continued prosperity of the EU economy and is predicted to grow significantly over the next 20 years. The challenge facing aviation is to meet the predicted growth in demand in a way that ensures that the environment is protected. This programme aims to provide courses on the fundamental disciplines that are of prime importance for developing new enabling technologies vital to the design of more environmentally friendly future aircraft, and offers multi-disciplinary training in aircraft technologies for reducing environmental impact and life-cycle costs.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have been awarded, or expect to be awarded, a 1st class or upper 2nd class or equivalent degree in Engineering (Aeronautical or Mechanical). English requirements: All candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency for admission to the College. For admission to this course, you must achieve the standard College requirement in the appropriate English language qualification.

Course modules

core modules: emerging technologies for green aviation; aircraft systems engineering; uav and mav technologies; individual project. Optional modules: technology, business and the market for aeronautical engineers; advanced mechanics of flight; aerospace vehicle design; airframe design; materials in action or materials modelling; helicopter dynamics; computational fluid dynamics; computational mechanics; advanced propulsion; innovation management; wing design; aeroservoelasticity; compressible flow; navier stokes and turbulence modelling; an introduction to flow control; manufacturing science; analysis of laminate composites; stress analysis and impact.
