The programme has several key research strengths, both basic and clinical; these include gynaecological oncology; breast cancer; surgical oncology; tumour virology and lung cancer; a major underlying research strength is the molecular biology of cancer; various aspects of molecular imaging are also of importance; recent achievements include the elucidation of the structure and mechanism of the multi-drug resistance P-glycoprotein.
