Current research interests include: German and Austrian exile studies (in particular exile in Britain 1933-1945); literature and culture of Fin de Si�cle Austria; literature and culture of the Weimar Republic; Russian literature 1660-1810; history of the Russian language in the 18th century; Russian verse prosody; phonetics of Modern Russian; the Russian language since 1989; Early Modern Japanese and Chinese drama (mid-19th to early 20th century); the role of women in Japanese and Chinese theatre in the Early Modern period; history of Spain; Spanish cultural studies; translation studies; historical linguistics; social and political history of Italy, Greece and France during the 2nd World War; social impact of foreign occupation and occupier-occupied relations, 1940-45; Fascist cultural policy; Italian cinema, Neorealism and its aftermath; metaphor in translation; the terminology of translation studies; the nature of the language of translated texts; translator training.
2.1 Honours degree or Master's degree in a relevant subject.
Students intending to carry out research in the humanities programme are eligible to apply for funding from the AHRB (Arts and Humanities Research Board).
