Supervision is currently available in the following areas: Late 19th- and early 20th-century literature; the literature of the Irish revival; the history of the book; business and quantitative book history; the history of authorship and author-publisher relations; the history of individual publishing houses; the history of literary agency from the 1880s; the history of book and newspaper distribution and selling; the history of libraries; the history of readers and reading; the history of artificial lighting; Anglo-American modernism; Anglo-Irish literature of the 20th century; romanticism; James Joyce; modern manuscript studies and genetic criticism; reading notes and marginalia; textual criticism; reception history; literary history.

Entry requirements

Good Honours degree or a Master's in a relevant subject.

The School of Advanced Study (University of London) is a partner institution of the London Arts and Humanities Partnership (LAHP) together with King's College London and UCL. From 2014, LAHP will offer up to 80 AHRC studentships each year to research students in the arts and humanities studying at 1 of the 3 institutions over the next 7 years. Studentship candidates are advised to apply for a place to study well in advance of the closing deadline for LAHP studentship applications to ensure that they have the opportunity to consult with proposed supervisors in preparing the LAHP studentship application form. It is suggested that candidates make their applications for a place to study in the School by 16 January 2015.
