Clinical Pharmacy (Hospital Pharmacists)

Students on this course build on their existing knowledge of disease states, pharmacology and pharmacokinetics to enable them to apply this in a clinical setting.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), or equivalent for pharmacists working overseas, and be practising either full-time or part-time within the hospital sector; normally, only applicants with the minimum of a 2nd Class degree classification (or equivalent for applicants from outside the UK) in pharmacy are accepted onto the programme without interview; exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis; candidates are also admitted on the basis of perceived and potential competence to complete the programme; we recommend that applicants should, normally, have worked in a hospital pharmacy setting for 6-12 months prior to commencing the course so that they have gained some experience of working in this sector.

Course modules

Students take a variety of 10-credit modules from the following list: cardiovascular disease 1; cardiovascular disease 2; central nervous system diseases; critical care and parenteral nutrition; endocrine disease; gastrointestinal disease; hepatic disease; HIV and AIDS; infections; joint disease; mental health; malignant disease; respiratory disease; renal disease; surgical; evidence-based practice and clinical; governance; maternal and child health; monitoring therapy; education theory and practice for health professionals.
