Environmental Politics

This course gives a thorough grounding in the politics of environment and involves consideration of political and economy, public policy, international relations, political sociology and their bearing on environmental issues. It also provides a foundation for further graduate or professional research.

Entry requirements

Prospective students should have a 1st or good 2nd Class Honours degree, or its equivalent. This 1st degree should be in politics or international relations, or any other social science subject (e.g. law or sociology), or a humanities subject (e.g. history, philosophy, English, or modern languages). Where English is not a 1st language, proof of English language competence will be required (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, with a minimum of 6 in each sub-test).

Course modules

Semester 1: power, knowledge and the world; 2 optional modules. Semester 2: perspectives in politics and international relations; research in action; 2 optional modules. Summer: dissertation.

Assessment methods

Most modules are assessed by a diverse range of coursework (e.g., essays, critiques, reports, presentations), though some modules may also be assessed by seminar contributions and/or written exams.

Bursaries sometimes available; eligibility for ESRC studentship; Commonwealth scholarships; British Council awards.
