Primary (with specialism in Mathematics)

The programme focuses on the special educational needs of each student; the course includes placements in a minimum of 2 schools in North Staffordshire, Shropshire and Stoke on Trent.

Entry requirements

At least a 2.2 and preferably a 2.1 Honours degree (or recognised equivalent); the relevance of an Honours degree content and /or A-levels to the chosen specialist subject(s); plus passes at GCSE in English language, science and mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent). Please note: although the Teaching Agency minimum requirement is a grade C at GCSE, we will generally be looking for applicants with a grade B or above in mathematics and English language. Selection based on the information provided on the GTTR application, on a successful interview (part of the interview is conducted within a partner school), a medical report which is deemed satisfactory, a completed Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) enhanced disclosure which is deemed satisfactory by the University, successful completion of the Teaching Agency�s QTS Skills Tests in Literacy and Numeracy (these are now a pre-entry requirement). Prior to interview, we would expect applicants to have undertaken a minimum of 10 days within a primary school setting within either Key stage 1 or 2. This should have included either team teaching and/or leadership of small group activities. We would not expect the time in school to have been solely spent observing an experienced practitioner(s). Applicants should provide written evidence from the school. This experience should have been gained within the last 2 years.

Assessment methods

Course participants are assessed through written assignments, presentations and portfolios. Throughout the programme you will be supported in keeping a dialogic diary. This will enable you to reflect on your developing professional capabilities and competences. Throughout your placements you will be assessed against the Teachers� Standards (May 2012).
