Education for Healthcare Professionals
This is a programme for qualified healthcare practitioners to acquire advanced understanding, knowledge and skills to engage in education within HE and clinical practice. Students successfully completing Teaching & Learning for Healthcare Professionals and Measurement and Evaluation for Healthcare Practice (PG Cert Education for Healthcare Professionals) may apply for the recordable qualification of Teacher (NMC).
Applicants should be qualified healthcare practitioners; NMC registrants must have been registered for a minimum of 2 years for the practice teacher qualification and 3 years for the teacher qualification; a good Honours degree (2.1 or above) is required.
Modules include: Teaching and learning for healthcare professionals; evaluation and measurement for healthcare practice; evidence based decision making in healthcare.
Assessment is by coursework; some modules are also assessed by one examination.
Staff from contracted Trusts are eligible to have their study funded, subject to agreement by their manager; students not sponsored by their employer may wish to pursue other sources of funding; some scholarships may be available; prospective students may also wish to consult the Directory of Grant-making Trusts and Charities (available in local libraries); self-funding students may wish to consider a Career Development Loan.
