Advanced Practice (District Nursing)

This course is intended to meet the needs of experienced practitioners who wish to advance their clinical practice, develop their professional career and enhance their knowledge of research and evidence-based healthcare in community nursing. This pathway aims to bring an advanced nurse practitioner level of practice to district nursing to encourage evolving service delivery models with emphasis on clinical leadership.

Entry requirements

A minimum 2:1 Honours degree (or overseas equivalent); applicants should be sponsored by a primary care provider in an appropriate district nursing setting for the duration of the programme.

Course modules

Modules include: Measurement and evaluation for healthcare practice; evidence based decision making in healthcare; district nursing skills compendium; prescribing for nurses and midwives; dissertation

Assessment methods

Assessment is by coursework and includes assessment of practice; some modules are also assessed by one examination.

Students must obtain NHS funding.
