Language and Cognition

This course focuses on issues at the interface of philosophy of language; cognitive science; philosophy of mind; philosophy of psychology; formal and computational linguistics; and logic; it offers a choice of modules in these areas, in conjunction with 2 core modules in the theory of grammar and the theory of meaning; students write a dissertation over the summer.

Entry requirements

A minimum 2.1 (or equivalent) Honours degree in philosophy or any other field; conversion students should show evidence of an interest in and aptitude for the subject.

Course modules

Modules include: Theory of grammar; theory of meaning; plus optional modules.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by examinations, essay based coursework and a dissertation.
