Theology and Religious Studies
Research interests include: the old testament period, the inter-testamental period and the entire range of new testament studies; other areas of research strength include systematic theology; history of religions (especially Christian reformation and modern period, and Islamic political thought); the philosophy of religion; Jewish philosophy; ethics (philosophical, Jewish, Christian and medical); the social scientific study of religion in contemporary society; mainly anthropology and sociology of religion (especially religion in Muslim and western societies).
MA or Good Honours degree (2.1 or above) from a British university; or an equivalent qualification; in both cases, their previous studies should normally have included a dissertation, or equivalent, demonstrating student's ability to present the result of independent study and research.
1 scholarship awarded each year by the King�s theological trust to a student from a country where the opportunity to pursue a theology degree is not normally available and for whom sources of finance are not available: the student must already have been accepted to study in the department; the trust additionally makes a number of minor grants to students: 2 Walton scholarships (approximately �4,500 each year); otherwise: AHRC; graduate school and school of arts and humanities scholarships and bursaries.
