Students on this programme research a range of themes including: curriculum; pedagogy and assessment; education management; school improvement; higher education; student and teacher identities; informal and workplace learning; inequality and social justice; the nature of professional expertise; the intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of personal experience and professional development; and the evolving practices and policy contexts of professional work.

Entry requirements

Good Honours degree (2.1 or above) in an appropriate subject to the research area; a teaching qualification or equivalent experience; 2 or more years of research in education; an appropriate Master's degree; an approved professional or other qualification.

Course modules

Social change and English: a study of 3 English departments 1945-65; targeted initiative on science and mathematics education; class, race, gender and age in teachers' social and professional worlds; modernity and religious education; widening participation in higher education.

Department offers a limited number of Quota Studentships funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.ithin The School of Social Science & Public Policy offers several research studentships every year, and there are some other awards offered by the College. Overseas students may be able to apply for an ORS subsidy (Overseas Research Studentship) to reduce fees to the level of the home/EU fees .The British Council sometimes awards fellowships to graduate overseas students, enquiries should be made to the nearest British Council Office in the your own country.
