Art and Design History
The course explores the history of both art and design as well as advancing their knowledge of developments that have occurred in these vibrant areas of practice over the past 2 centuries; the course also provides students with transferable skills in history, theory and research.
Applicants should have a BA (Hons) degree or equivalent qualification in: art history; or design history; or a humanities subject, such as English literature, film and media studies or sociology; or a practice-based degree in an area such as fine art with some art history; interview; applicants whose 1st language is not English must have an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent.
Modules include: Materialising histories 1 (images, objects and environments); materialising histories 2 (images, objects and environments); critical issues in research; special study subject; interdisciplinary research methods (the proposal and analysis); interdisciplinary research methods (the synthesis); dissertation.
Assessment is through seminar presentations; essays; dissertation (12,000-15,000 words).
