Communication Design (Illustration)
This course enables students to explore their individual specialist interests in graphic design within an integrative learning environment that provides a comprehensive understanding of the value and role of interdisciplinary methods and ways of working. The course encourages students to look critically at the practice of illustration; in particular the understanding of the fundamental processes at work in the application of the constructed image essential to negotiate an enduring and sustainable career. The practice of illustration continues to adapt and to develop new approaches to the mediation of information, messages and the origination of content as well as form. The course builds on this knowledge and aims to provide a deeper understanding of how illustrators can utilise both old and new methods and technologies to build new and challenging forms of communication.
A BA (Hons) degree or equivalent qualification in illustration or animation or a related subject, such as fine art, graphic design, photography, printmaking, fashion or textiles; a portfolio of work, must accompany application; interview; international students must have an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent.
Modules include: Visual grammar, literacy and intelligence; designing research; visual storytelling; creative futures.
Assessment is through specialist practical project work, core module practical project work, masters specialist major project.
