Communication Design (Graphic Design)

This course enables students to explore their individual specialist interests in graphic design within an integrative learning environment that provides a comprehensive understanding of the value and role of interdisciplinary methods and ways of working. It focuses on extending possibilities of visual communication, which is underpinned with an understanding of the business and social context. A series of projects to challenges conventions and develops new skills using both traditional and current technologies. The convergence of technology, the emergence of complex cultural networks of communication and the impact of new media on traditional communication channels is also explored.

Entry requirements

A BA (Hons) degree or equivalent qualification in graphic design or a related subject, such as moving image, graphic communication, illustration, 3D design, advertising, photography, packaging, computer-related design, architecture or fine art; relevant experience; a portfolio is required; interview; applicants whose 1st language is not English require Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall.

Course modules

Modules include: Visual grammar, literacy and intelligence; designing research; visual storytelling; creative futures.

Assessment methods

Assessment is through portfolio, exhibition and Master's project.
