Political Economy

The course gives students an opportunity to receive a broad-based education for dealing with the economic, social political issues of the day without sacrificing the detailed technical specialisation offered by an Master's in economics. It covers a broad range of political economy approaches, including Marxian, post-Keynesian and institutionalist theories. It gives an opportunity to study contemporary issues such as the causes of the financial and economic crises and economic and social inequality.

Entry requirements

A 2nd Class degree or above, or equivalent, in an appropriate subject; applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS score of 6.5 with at least 5.5 in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Course modules

Modules include: Applied econometrics and economic policy; economic change and ideas; macro and micro economic theory; political economy: effective demand, exploitation and crisis.

Assessment methods

Assessment may include class tests, essays, examinations, graded exercises, practical coursework, presentations, take-home tests, dissertation, literature review and economic reports.
