This course introduces students to key debates about the theory and practice of different types of history. It provides a broad outline of a variety of research methods, and teaches students the documentary and archival skills necessary to pursue a research topic of their choice.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree or equivalent in history, English or a related subject. Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have IELTS of 6.5 overall, with special conditions in all elements.

Course modules

Modules include: Doing history: theory methods and practice; history dissertation; modern Britain and Europe: wars, nations and cultures; presenting public history: policy, heritage, museums and the media; the 18th century: revolution, empire and society.

Assessment methods

Assessment includes essays, written assignments, presentations and dissertation.
