Secondary Education (Science, Biology)
The science specialist pathway has a very practical focus. It enables students to teach all 3 sciences (biology, chemistry and physics) up to key stage 3, biology to GCSE, and the biology in the 6th form. The course also aims to develop professional skills to help students gain employment in a secondary school and continue with professional development. 2/3 of course time is spent working in schools. The main emphasis is on planning work for pupils, planning for good discipline/control and developing skills as a teacher. Successful completion of this course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests.
A 2.2 Honours degree relevant to biology (at least 50 per cent of the degree content needs to be relevant to biology). GCSE (A-C) in English language and mathematics; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5.
