Environmental and Earth Resources Management
This course provides an understanding of the management and development of the Earth's natural resources. It covers a broad range of environmental and sustainability issues such as the management of environmental problems that arise from the use and misuse of natural resource. Students investigate the rationale behind the exploitation and conservation of the natural environment and the need for a sustainable management strategy. Techniques for the collection, analysis and interpretation of environmental data are also investigated.
An Honours degree or equivalent in any scientific discipline, particularly geography and the Earth and environmental sciences; or appropriate professional experience; where English is not 1st language an IELTS score of 6.5 with 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in reading, listening and speaking is required.
Modules include: Waste management and contaminated land remediation; sustainable environmental management; biodiversity and conservation; water resource management; mineral and energy resources; economic ethics and the social environment; remote sensing of the environment; research methods and data analysis; research project. Optional module: contemporary issues in environmental and earth resources.
Assessment is through exams; individual or group-based exercises; reports; reviews; practical exercises; seminars; poster presentations; role-play exercises and simulations; research project.
