Pharmaceutical Science

This course explores recent trends in chemical, biological and biotechnological therapeutics and take a look at the latest technologies used in the pharmaceutical industry. An understanding is also gained of the processes used in clinical trials and in the development, manufacturing and regulation of medicines. Students may be offered placements in industry or within the University's own laboratories.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree in chemistry, pharmacy, life science or a related subject; or alternative qualifications plus appropriate experience; applicants whose 1st language is not English must have an IELTS score of 6.5 with 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in reading, listening and speaking.

Course modules

Modules include: Clinical trials and pharmacovigilance; design, discovery and development of pharmaceuticals; developing, manufacturing and regulation of medicines; pharmaceutical analysis; pharmaceutical instrumentation; pharmaceutical technology; separation science 1; statistics and computing; research methods and skills; independent research project.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by exams; laboratory reports; assignments; case studies; oral presentations; poster presentations; research project.
