Lancaster University

Languages and Cultures

The programme is designed to allow students to develop specialist knowledge of a subject area at an advanced level and to develop skills which can be transferred into professions outside the university. The programme may also be considered a pathway towards doctoral research. The subject for study may further develop a topic already encountered during your undergraduate studies, whether in the Department for European Languages and Cultures (DELC) or an institution elsewhere, or it may draw upon a breadth of expertise in the department. The programme comprises 3 taught modules. All 3 modules can be selected from the range available in DELC and related departments in the Faculty. In addition to the 3 taught modules, students attend a non-assessed module in research methodology offered centrally by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Entry requirements

Usually a good 1st degree in languages (upper 2nd Class or above) and a viable research proposal.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by original research and dissertation.
