Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (distance learning)

This web-based programme is designed for English language teachers with at least 2 years' experience in the field. In the course students work together with fellow students from different parts of the world in a supportive online learning environment. The programme develops understanding of classroom practice and allows students to focus both their coursework and dissertation on issues in their own educational context. The course starts with an online orientation week in October.

Entry requirements

An upper 2nd Class Honours degree, or its equivalent, plus 2 years full-time teaching experience. Students whose 1st language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency in the English language (IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent qualification).

Course modules

Modules include: Pedagogical grammar; curriculum design and teacher development; second language acquisition; second language classroom research; trends and issues in language teaching methodology.

Assessment methods

Modules are assessed by a variety of assignments, essays, recorded presentations and a dissertation.
