Gender and Women's Studies and Sociology

This programme is ideal for those who wish to study gender and women�s studies in combination with empirical and theoretical developments in sociology at an advanced level, and particularly suitable for those interested in social research and/or feminist sociological theory. Students take core courses in each of the disciplines and can choose from a range of optional courses in addition to these. This combination is administered from the Centre for Gender and Women's Studies, one of the largest centres in the UK for feminist research, gender studies and women�s studies, part of one of the most highly regarded Sociology departments in the UK.

Entry requirements

An upper 2nd Class Honours degree, or its equivalent, in sociology, gender and women�s studies or related field. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS score of 7.0 or equivalent qualification.

Course modules

Core modules: Debates in feminist research; gender, sex and bodies; independent research dissertation. Option modules: Capitalism and crisis; debates in feminist research; gender, sex and bodies; feminist media and cultural studies; feminist technoscience studies; mobilities, society and change; social and cultural theory.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on a combination of coursework and a dissertation.
