International Innovation (Design)

The course provides students with an understanding of how design interfaces with other disciplines in the product development process. It draws on the strengths of the design research centre, ImaginationLancaster. Students will develop an understanding of design thinking and design-driven innovation and its relationship to high-impact collaborative R&D and commercialisation projects through UK and Chinese business partnerships. Students selected for this unique programme will receive a living allowance award of £16,000 over the duration of the programme. A unique feature of this programme is the opportunity to work with companies in both the UK and China; spending a minimum of 6 months in China. Students will build upon their academic and practical experience to develop and deliver innovation-themed projects to UK and Chinese companies. Through close inter-departmental collaboration with Lancaster University Management School and Faculty for Science and Technology it will equip students with a solid foundation of knowledge, skills and expertise in the areas of design, management and technology.

Entry requirements

An upper 2nd Class Honours degree, or its equivalent, in design or from the digital and creative sectors. Where English is not the native language/language of instruction: IELTS: Normally 7.0 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each component) or equivalent TOEFL.

Course modules

Modules: Design management; imagination lab; design and business; design directions; design-driven innovation; UK project; China project. Alternative pathways are available in: computer science; engineering; entrepreneurship; environmental science; telecommunications.

Assessment methods

Assessment includes coursework, presentation and collaborative industry projects.
