International Innovation (Engineering)

This programme encompasses selected modules in electronic engineering and/or mechanical engineering. It builds on the current use of electronic and embedded software in industry, and the systems and devices we use on a daily basis. The course will give students specialist skills in engineering and a solid foundation of knowledge, skills and expertise in the areas of technology, design and management, as they become part of a group of like-minded, multidisciplinary students, entrepreneurs and businesses. Alternative pathways of computer science, design, entrepreneurship, environmental science and telecommunications are also available.

Entry requirements

An upper 2nd Class Honours degree, or its equivalent in a related technological subject, depending on the exact modules to be taken. For electronic modules, a degree in electronic and electrical engineering would be required. Work experience preferred, not essential. Where English is not the native language/language of instruction: IELTS: 7.0 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each component) or equivalent TOEFL.

Course modules

Core modules include: System design and modelling; intelligent systems control; linking group project. Specialist modules in electronic engineering including: Smart systems; advanced embedded systems; electrical power systems and modelling. Specialist modules in mechanical engineering including: mechanics and actuators; advanced CAD/AM; renewable energy. Optional modules may include: Corporate entrepreneurship; design driven innovation; Chinese language and culture (or equivalent for Chinese speakers.

Assessment methods

Assessment is via a combination of coursework and/or examination, project work and dissertation.
