International Innovation (Telecommunications)

Students study a range of general and specialist modules in telecommunications such as digital and advanced communications, digital signal processing, speech and image coding, wireless broadband, advanced filters and systems, enterprise systems and interaction design. Students also have Chinese language, cultural and business seminars allowing them to benefit from a rich and distinctive learning experience. Students also work on collaborative projects with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK and in Guangdong Province, China. Our highly supportive learning environment will help students acquire a deep understanding of advanced technical skills in telecommunications coupled with the processes and techniques needed to apply innovation globally. Alternative pathways of computer science, design, engineering, entrepreneurship and environmental science are also available.

Entry requirements

2nd Class Honours degree, or its equivalent, in electronic/electrical engineering, communications/telecommunications, control, computer science/computer engineering, physics or mathematics. Relevant industry experience may be considered. Students whose 1st language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency in the English language (IELTS or TOEFL).

Course modules

Core modules include: Digital communications; digital signal processing; wireless broadband; advanced communications; speech and image coding; advanced filters and systems; organised industry placement (UK); organised industry placement (China). Plus interdisciplinary modules: Corporate entrepreneurship; design driven innovation; Chinese language and culture (or equivalent for Chinese speakers).

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include: Coursework, exams and dissertation.
