Data Science

This programme is aimed at those students who wish to develop skills in the emerging discipline of data science. A variety of routes through the programme are provided, allowing students to choose from a range of elective modules based on their own interests. Example routes are: Data science systems (how to build large-scale systems for answering data science questions); data mining (how data mining can be performed at scale, and in a range of application areas); statistical inference (advanced techniques for model inference from data; marketing, sales, and finance).

Entry requirements

An upper 2nd Class Honours degree, or its equivalent, in a subject relevant to computer science, mathematics or statistics. Students whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: Data mining; data science fundamentals; programming for data scientists; likelihood inference; generalised linear models; statistical inference; statistical methods and modelling; CS: Elements of distributed systems; systems architecture and integration; applied data mining.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on coursework and examination.
