This course provides training for general primary teachers, focusing on the 5-11 age range. It aims to develop subject knowledge in English, mathematics and science and how these are taught across the 5-11 age range. It also allows for the development of experience, understanding and teaching of the foundation subjects at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and the progression that is involved. Students will gain a balance of school and university based periods of training throughout the year.
2.1 Honours degree. GCSE grade C in English, mathematics and a science subject, or equivalent. Previous study of childhood at degree or A-level required, e.g. in psychology or sociology, and candidates should have substantial experience of working with young children in early childhood settings (at least 150 hours in the previous 12 months). Entry is subject to interview. An enhanced Disclosure and Disbarment check obtained through the University is essential for entry along with checks on applicant's medical fitness. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) skills tests must be passed before starting the course.
