Secondary (Physical Education)
Designed to produce skilled and effective physical education teachers, this course provides students with an extensive knowledge and understanding of the subject and curriculum areas. The course encourages imaginative and creative approaches to teaching and learning, developing ability to deliver National Curriculum (QCA 2007) and Examination Physical Education to pupils in the 11-18 age range.
2.1 Honours degree. GCSE grade C in English, mathematics and a science subject, or equivalent. Previous study of childhood at degree or A-level required, e.g. in psychology or sociology, and candidates should have substantial experience of working with young children in early childhood settings (at least 150 hours in the previous 12 months). Entry is subject to interview. An enhanced Disclosure and Disbarment check obtained through the University is essential for entry along with checks on applicant's medical fitness. Qualified teacher status (QTS) skills tests must be passed before starting the course.
