Centre-based training focuses on subject teaching, planning and classroom management. Schools provide opportunities to observe, support and teach. Stages 2 and 3 are school-based teaching placements with trainees teaching a 30-70 per cent timetable.
During Stage 1 knowledge and understanding is assessed by focussed written assignments. During Stages 2 and 3 progress against the Teachers Standards is assessed by observing performance as a teacher in schools. Classroom teachers evaluate lesson plans, observe lessons and review marking. Self review and attendance at training activities supports development.
