Theology and Religious Education

This course has been designed to cater particularly for the interests and requirements of professionals in the religious education sector, including primary and secondary schools and post�compulsory education, through offering a unique opportunity to combine the study of religious education with theology.

Entry requirements

Normally a 1st Class or upper 2nd Class Honours degree in a relevant discipline. Applications from students who do not hold a 1st or 2.1 Honours degree (or equivalent) will be asked to demonstrate potential to achieve a Master's award via a sample of academic writing and interview before an offer is made.

Course modules

Programme is split into 3 block. Religious education block: Controversial issues in religious education; context, curriculum and purposes. Theology block: Studies in Christology; studies in Ecclesiology; theological uses in Judaism; living tradition: continuity and change in western and non-western Christianity; Pauline literature. Dissertation block: Dissertation preparation module; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessments are based on a 3,000 word essay and shorter written pieces and a dissertation.
