Secondary Education (Religious Education with Philosophy)
Successful completion of this course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Approximately 20 weeks of the course spent on placement.
Candidates must hold a minimum of a 2.2 degree with at least 50 percent in religious education with philosophy modules; GCSE grade C or equivalent in English and mathematics. It is a government requirement that applicants take the numeracy and literacy skills tests. Students must ensure they have passed them both before the start of the course. If invited for interview, all candidates will undertake a short literacy test. Any offer of a place on the programme is made conditional on satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and a satisfactory fitness to teach declaration. School experience is desirable but not essential; applicants would need to demonstrate awareness of current school practices and a knowledge of the mathmatics curriculum.
Part 1: initial skills assessment; part 2: training plan; part 3: synoptic assessment; part 4: assignments subject to final assessment by external examiner.
