Mathematical Informatics

This programme provides students with the opportunity to study both in the UK and in France where they gain 2 degrees; successful graduates gain the MSc computer science and informatics, awarded by Liverpool hope university, UK and MSc applied mathematics, taught at the Université Catholique de l'Ouest, and awarded by the university of Angers, France; the programme includes a paid internship where students work on a technology project within a company; the internship gives an opportunity to utilise the technical, scientific and academic knowledge learnt within the programme whilst further developing communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills; the internship culminates in a research dissertation that is assessed by both Liverpool Hope University and Université Catholique de l'Ouest.

Entry requirements

A 1st Class or upper 2nd Class Honours degree in computer science, computing, science or an engineering-based discipline. Applications from students who do not hold a 1st or 2.1 Honours degree (or equivalent) will be asked to demonstrate potential to achieve a Master's award via a sample of academic writing and interview before an offer is made. For students whose 1st language is not English there is a language requirement of IELTS 6.5 overall (reading 6, writing 6), TOEFL ibt 87, or other equivalent recognised English language qualification.

Course modules

Modules include: Computational modelling and simulation; algorithms; innovations in computer science; research methods for computer science. Year 1 elective modules: embedded systems and robotics; cloud computing and web services; mobile and ubiquitous computing; human computer interaction; e-business. Year 2 modules: computational optimization and application; systems analysis and design; complex systems; French as a foreign language (compulsory for non-native French speakers); English and innovation; internship and dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment is done individually; assessment methods vary but generally include essays, presentations and a dissertation.
