This course offers graduates from other subjects the opportunity to start a new career in psychology; it is also available to psychology graduates who completed a psychology degree which did not have accreditation from the British Psychological Society (BPS); upon completion students are eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the BPS; the programme covers the key topics of psychology such as biological psychology, cognitive psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology and personality and individual differences; it has a strong component of research methods and statistics which enables candidates to design and conduct research in psychology and other areas of social sciences; passing the course confers eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR).

Entry requirements

A 1st Class or upper 2nd Class Honours degree in a relevant discipline plus minimum GCSE maths grade C (or equivalent). Please note this is a conversion course for non-psychology degrees. Applications from students who do not hold a 1st or 2.1 Honours degree (or equivalent) will be asked to demonstrate potential to achieve a Master's award via a sample of academic writing and interview before an offer is made. For students whose 1st language is not English there is a language requirement of IELTS 6.5 overall (reading 6, writing 6), TOEFL ibt 87, or other equivalent recognised English language qualification.

Course modules

Modules include: Mind, brain and behaviour; researching the social world; human development; personality and individual differences; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment is via essays and psychological research reports.
