International Business Corporate and Finance Law

This Masters of Laws degree programme focuses on specific areas of international business corporate and finance law and is approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and Bar Council as an appropriate programme of study for CPD purposes. It is also a stand alone qualification for those who wish to enhance their career prospects through acquiring vocationally relevant knowledge and skills in this particular field. For those who wish to study the LLM but do not have a background in law, or those with some law who would prefer to refresh their legal studies, there is a short pre-course of study: Law for Non-Lawyers. This is not assessed but may be mandatory if you do not have a first degree in law. The LLM is delivered by academics highly involved in research within their own specific subject area, a blend of career young research active lecturers, qualified and former practitioners of law and internationally established experts in their field. Members of staff at the School of Law carry out research in Law � UK and International, and Dispute Resolution and Criminal Justice.

Entry requirements

In order to be considered for this degree, you will need to have: an appropriate honours degree e.g. in Law, Finance, Banking or Accounting or a professional qualification deemed to be equivalent to an appropriate honours degree. Degree classification: 2.2; qualifications and previous work experience deemed to be equivalent to the above entry requirements and in suitable areas linked to the award. Non-law graduates will be required to undertake a short pre-course � �Law for Non-Lawyers� immediately prior to the start of the LLM. It is not assessed, but essential. International applicants are required to demonstrate equivalent qualifications and must also demonstrate a proficiency in communicating through English, via an IELTS test with a score of 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each component) or equivalent.

Course modules

Core modules: international trade and finance law; international commercial contracting; global finance law and regulation; theory and practice of international corporate governance; financial services and financial crime; advanced legal research methods; postgraduate dissertation in international law. Option modules: international competition law; international intellectual property law; international dispute resolution; international environmental law; international labour law; risk management.

Assessment methods

All module assessments are through coursework only, with a final dissertation of 12-15,000 words.
