Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting/School Nursing)
This programme combines theoretical study and supervised practice in primary care settings to develop specialist community public health nurses. As a school nurse or health visitor, you will be able to lead the development of future primary care services. Within your area of practice, you will examine and assess the diverse health needs of the population, developing skills to support the empowerment of individuals, groups and communities. Course teaching builds on your existing clinical experience to extend your theoretical and professional knowledge and understanding. During your studies, you will be encouraged to share your knowledge and experiences, networking in your peer group and beyond. Many sessions are shared with different community nursing programmes delivered by LJMU. Group discussions and workshops provide an ideal opportunity for you to understand the working roles of other healthcare specialists. The programme features a range of student-centred teaching and learning activities including: Interactive lectures; practice related activities; tutorials; seminars; directed study; the use of electronic learning.
Core modules: Public health; leadership and management; research methods; community practitioner prescribing (eligible students only); specialist community public health nursing; engagement for health; managing complexity in safeguarding and vulnerability; integrated practice.
